Considerations When Working With an Architect
3. Notice the Little Things
How do you like your current home? Is your home naturally dark? Do
you think your living room is too small when entertaining company?
Do you have enough counter space in your kitchen when preparing dinner?
Do you hate having your computer jammed into a corner of your bedroom?
Are your closets filled to the brim? Is your entrance hallway so narrow
that it makes traffic flow awkward right off the bat? The greatest
advantage of designing your own home is that you can fix all the things
that have always annoyed you about your current home.
Walk around your house and note all the features you like and dislike
and share them with your architect. You may even want to invite your
architect over for a guided tour where you point out all the problem
areas and things you love. This will give a sense of the flourishes
and features that you would like added to your home's design.
