Working With A Builder

Checklist for Hiring A Builder
1. Will the builder agree to a written contract?
   
2. Is he licensed or registered, if required?
   
3. Is he performance-bonded or insured, and to what amount?
   
4. Does the builder have personal liability insurance for accidental damage?
   
5. Does he have workman's compensation insurance for personal injury?
   
6. Does he have his own crew, or hire subcontractors to do the work?
   
7. Are all subcontractors and laborers bonded, self-insured, or insured by the builder?
   
8. Will you, or the builder, pay the subcontractors?
   
9. Will the builder guarantee the subcontractors' work and correct all problems?
   
10.  If the builder purchases the job materials, will you pay the direct (wholesale) price?
   
11. Does the builder offer a written warranty for the work performed?
   
12. Is he a member of, or registered with, organizations such as the National Association of Home Builders or the Council of Better Business Bureaus?
