Do-It-Safe

Professionals who work hard to make a living with tools and materials, work just as hard to stay accident-free. Do-it-yourselfers can follow their example. You're less likely to have an accident if you take precautions, stay focused on what you're doing, and make safety a top priority on every job.

Follow the procedures manufacturers recommend for their tools. Don't defeat safety devices like blade guards or other protections just to speed up a job. Use safety gear including work boots, leather gloves, impact-resistant glasses, Kevlar chaps, hard hats and whatever else it takes to save yourself from accidental injury. And always keep your workplace clean, even if it means stopping occasionally to pick up debris or sweep used materials into a corner.
